The history of one of today’s largest Sherry houses dates back to 1760 from His Excellence, Don Joaquin Manuel de Villena. In 1897 Marques del Real Tesoro was established as a brand, using the extensive Jerez Sherry reserves stored two centuries earlier by the late Don Joaquin. With centuries of experience, Real Tesoro have become a renowned bodega – due to consistent quality and for being a supplier to the Royal House of Spain.
Since 1985, the company belongs to Grupo Estévez which also owns Valdespino among other brands. After the purchase, Real Tesoro was moved to the modern premises outside the old centre of Jerez. This impressive location (where it is still housed today) has computer controlled humidity, bottling lines, laboratories and also houses Valdespino. Much the same as Valdespino, Jose Estevez ensured keeping it in family hands would enable the quality and tradition to be maintained.
